I followed your method number 2. But to add to it, it showed 2 in all the rows with a drop down option at the end showing autofill options in which I then clicked on one of the options of fill series. That did the trick.

Sometimes, users need to generate dynamic serial numbers as they go by inserting entries into other adjacent cells. In those cases, this macro variant allows users to insert dynamic serial numbers with each entry.

You can generate random characters by combining the CHAR and RANDBETWEEN functions. The CHAR function returns a string character from an ANSI character code. Although you can give it numbers between 1 and 255 to get a character, not every character is suitable for passwords such as space or new line characters.
