You might have trouble finding a bow that was made in 2002 because it will be in the thousands of dollars. At some point, the reduced demand for old bows in the market will bring them down to a price point where they become more easily available. There will be cheaper bow prices as time goes on. My guess is that a bow made in 1994 will remain a collectors item for at least the next 20 years.
@BHO:disqus The fact is, after 2008, there was a financial restructuring of all the manufacturers, including Bear Archery. This meant that the conglomerate of bow manufacturers that Bear Archery was a part of, ceased to exist. This conglomerate would have provided the financial backing to get the Bear Archery factory re-built, to hire the necessary people and give them the financial backing to get it done. These days, if a bow is made in America it is done in a factory. The labor cost is far less and the capital investment is far less. This means that today a factory can produce many more bows in the same amount of time than it could when Bear Archery was in business. Bear Archery could not compete with the lower labor costs of other manufactures. It is not a non-profit organization. It is a for-profit company. It is run by a CEO who is paid by the shareholders to run the company.
The bow may have been made in the correct year, but was not the correct type. That would be a Type I that was made in 1969.The best example I have ever seen is a Type I Cheyenne bow. I have seen some make believes for sale by the dozen of this bow. It is of the correct year, 1969. The bow itself is as good as a Type II. But the riser is a custom build. Maybe by a skilled tech who had never made a type I before. This bow looks like it is going to sell for a small fortune.
@marko:disqus I am not quite sure what you are taking about. Bear Archery is not a non-profit organization and does not operate at a loss. I am not sure if you realize that, or if you are just pulling this out of your hat.
A beginner can buy a model with the usual limbs, but add a limb at the tip to make it a better arrow rest. This is called a tip-up. So, to make the same bow as a beginner, but more useful for hunting, you can buy a tip-up for the beginner bow.
