Windows Server 8 was released for Standard and Datacenter editions. These editions included the Windows Kernel, Network Stack, Active Directory, and System Center. Windows 8 Pro and 8 Enterprise were released for OEMs and were the only versions available via retail. Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise were otherwise identical to their Windows 7 counterparts until Windows 8.1, which introduced a significant number of new features into the operating system, including the Start screen, Continuum, and Universal Windows Platform.
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update was released on September 2, 2017, as a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users. Windows 10 Fall Creators Update included the new Windows Ink features, a new Windows Hello biometric authentication system, and the capability to use Cortana in the lock screen, as well as the ability to lock the computer when a connected USB monitor is unplugged.
In 2016, Microsoft released Windows 10 as a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 users. The release was timed to coincide with the launch of the Xbox One and the two gaming-oriented features, Windows Hello and Windows 10 Game Mode, were included with the operating system. Windows 10 also introduces several new features, including a new UI, improvements to the start menu, the gesture-based Cortana digital assistant, the ability to sign in without a password, the ability to run multiple apps at once on the same display, and the ability to use the Windows 10 Xbox app to pair a Windows 10 PC to the Xbox One and play Xbox games from the PC.
Windows 10 was later released for consumer-facing PC hardware, but only for those systems that were manufactured after the Windows 10 January 2018 Update, which brought Win32 subsystem support for ARM-based Windows 10 devices. Windows 10 Mobile, which had been produced by Microsoft's mobile division, was discontinued and all Windows 10 Mobile devices were upgraded to Windows 10 Pro tablets. As of August 10, 2019, Windows 10 Mobile is no longer supported by Microsoft and no longer receives new feature updates.
Windows 10 comes in two editions – the Home and Pro variants. The Home edition is less powerful and designed for average users while the Pro edition is equipped with more features and tools for power users. The Pro edition also comes with a higher price tag. Windows 10 version 1803, codenamed ‘Redstone 5’, was officially released on April 30, 2018, as a free update to existing users on version 1709. This is the first official update to Windows 10 after its initial release.

The new Windows 10 Pro brings a new taskbar in the form of Action Center, a new clean UI and other new features. It also sports a new start menu with the ability to pin favorite apps and switches to fullscreen mode. It also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) content for better video playback and enhances the new Windows Ink SDK. Windows 10 also boasts of new Edge extensions which allow you to customize a website or make an iFrame from a webpage. There is a new web browser for Windows 10 called Project Spartan.
